“Yay! More test prep!” is a saying teachers NEVER hear! Simply put, test prep is often boring and overwhelming. The words “test” and “assessment” often cause students to panic. Thus, they are unable to show their true level of understanding. Additionally, many students worry about disappointing the teacher with a low test score. In order to avoid this boredom, stress, and worry, teachers need to make test prep more exciting. Luckily, the task to Escape Santa’s Workshop involves such a fun activity for test prep! After completing this activity, students will be asking for more lessons just like this one.

Escape Santa’s Workshop

As the countdown to Christmas is officially on, students are eagerly awaiting Santa’s visit! However, students must figure out clues and complete the challenges to escape Santa’s workshop! If they don’t, the presents won’t be loaded into the sleigh to leave on time. Thus, students must remain focused during this fun activity for test prep.

During the escape room, students will completely forget they are working on test prep. Instead, this Christmas activity will keep students engaged as they are responsible for helping fill Santa’s sleigh with presents. However, they will only achieve this goal through COOPERATION! Thus, this resource ensures that students are learning how to work together in order to reach a common goal.

In order to escape Santa’s workshop, students must first get into elf-fashion with an elf hat! Then, they will complete five STEM building activities. Within the activities, there are also five challenges. For instance, students have to practice parts of speech by separating words into nouns, adjectives, and verbs. Additionally, they will practice two-digit addition and subtraction using any strategy learned in class. Within each activity, students are also practicing reading comprehension in order to solve a clue card. Furthermore, they will use team skills to build a pyramid and wrap a present. However, there are added challenges, such as only being able to use one hand! In order to ensure students are doing their best, the head elf must approve of all completed challenges! Truly, this is such a fun activity for test prep that doesn’t make students feel pressured or overwhelmed.

Since every student learns differently, there are included modifications. For example, there are clue cards that just contain the challenge to solve. However, there are also ones that include three pictures in order to provide options for students to select from.

The days leading up to Christmas break can be some of the hardest to plan. Students are so excited for one of the most exciting days of the year to finally arrive. Thus, it can be really hard for them to sit through the standard routine of the day. Thankfully, escape rooms for the class help ensure students are still practicing key skills! In order for students to Escape Santa’s Workshop to save Christmas, they will have to be dedicated elves!
