Hi, I'm Stephanie!

Welcome!

Hey, welcome to School House Rap! I’m excited that you are here.

Do you LOVE using picture books in your lessons?

 I DO!

I’ve found that using diverse picture books in the classroom help teachers by

  • Integrating multiple subject areas
  • Discussing hard topics
  • Creating windows and mirrors for students
  • Shortening the amount of time used to create lesson plans
  • introducing children to a wide variety of new vocabulary words

There is a limited amount of time in a school day so maximizing our time is imperative.  We also want to make sure that our students are connecting with diverse literature in order to become empathic global citizens.

I’m here to help you free up time AND use diverse picture books in your weekly lessons.

A Little About Me!

I have been an elementary educator for 20 years.  The majority of that time has been spent in first grade.  I thought first grade was the best…until I went to second grade! It’s my favorite.  I have also taught English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) K-5.

I enjoy presenting at conferences and speaking with other educators about using diverse picture books in the classroom every day.  I earned a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and designing picture book units has become my passion.
