History is an important subject to teach in elementary school, but it can be difficult to teach the truth in an unbiased way. What is the truth? It is the facts and events that have happened in the past. It is important for teachers to be able to teach these facts in a way that is not biased or influenced by personal opinion and I know we all have opinions!

When teaching history, it is important to provide students with various sources. This will allow them to form their own opinions and draw their own conclusions. It is also important to provide students with a variety of perspectives. This will help them to understand the different sides of a story and to think critically about the events that have taken place.

It is important to teach history because it helps students to understand the world around them. It also helps them understand how the past has shaped the present, and by teaching it early, students can build on foundations instead of having to unlearn information that isn’t true.

When teaching history, it is important to be unbiased. This means avoiding personal opinions and focusing on the facts. It is also important to be respectful of different cultures and beliefs. This will help students to understand different perspectives and to be open-minded.

Finally, it is important to provide students with various activities and resources. This will help them to engage with the material and to develop a deeper understanding of the subject. Activities such as debates, role-playing, and simulations can be used to help students explore different aspects of history.  Picture books, both non-fiction, and fiction, are excellent ways to bring history alive in the classroom.  There are many biographies written for younger students.  Build your collection and have the books readily available for your students.
