When is Black History Month?

Black History Month occurs every February. While many classrooms focus on Valentine’s Day or Presidents’ Day, Black History Month is imperative to honor. Often, the game called Memory is very popular! Thankfully, students can play this game using the Black History fact cards. To do this, make two copies of the sheets with the pictures. Then, review the game and allow the students to play. While making pairs, students will be able to read about individual accomplishments. Additionally, this format will help classmates work together.

For this fun game, students will match the picture of the famous African American to the correct fact. Thus, there are factual statements and pictures provided. In many ways, this is like a trivia game!

Bulletin boards can be stressful to plan! Thankfully, the Black History fact cards can be used for a quick yet powerful display. Furthermore, there are also several options. Teachers may post the cards that contain the picture and facts. Students will be able to read about the individuals whenever passing by. Or, teachers may post the name cards under each photo as a visual display with no writing. Additionally, an interactive bulletin board can even be created where a small folder is attached to the wall or door. Then, students can pull facts and match them to the correct person. There are many options whether displaying the cards in the hallway or on your door! Here are some colorful borders to use with this resource.

Black History Month does not have to make people sad. While the development is due to the horrendous treatment of individuals, it is essential to focus on triumph over tragedy.
