In recent years, there has been a huge focus to encourage women to enter STEM fields. Before this, these career paths were dominated by men. While there are more women now pursuing STEM, there is still a missing focus. There needs to be more encouragement for black women in science. Hence, Women’s History Month is the perfect time to encourage black women to enter STEM fields. The Black Women in Science Reading Passages will merge content and inspiration together!
Lack of Diversity in STEM
If you ask students to draw a picture of a scientist or engineer, they will most likely draw a male. Unfortunately, this is the view that many students hold. Therefore, it is so important to change this thinking. There is absolutely nothing saying only males can go into the STEM field. However, in order to change this thinking, students need to learn about women in STEM. By doing this, students can be inspired and see all of the career paths that are open to them.
