Additionally, there will be people from different backgrounds with different beliefs. Hence, Mommy’s Khimar Picture Book Unit is all about showing students how beauty exists in so many different ways.
This incredible book will show students how everyone has items that help them feel loved. For this young Muslim American girl, it is her mom’s khimar. She loves to wrap herself up in her mom’s colorful headscarves. By doing this, readers see how beauty comes in so many forms. Scarfes are all different colors with different details and designs. Regardless of the one she wears, this young Muslim American girl always feels loved. Additionally, this story shows how important it is to value and welcome diversity.

In order to teach acceptance, this unit is filled with thought-provoking activities. Additionally, there are many different connections to Reading, ELA/Writing, and Speaking/Listening standards. Furthermore, there are many opportunities for character education lessons in order to help teach students the importance of acceptance.

These are great ways to push students beyond simple comprehension. With these questions, students will be analyzing pictures to help guide feelings and emotions.
