For example, if the story begins with “Once Upon A Time…,” students know they will read some type of fairy tale. However, if it begins with “Venomous snakes are one of the most dangerous animals,” the purpose is different. Now, the purpose is to inform readers why this animal is so dangerous. Ultimately, knowing the author’s purpose will greatly help students understand the point of the passage.
